About Inner Sustainability Game
The Story Behind Inner Sustainability Game
The Inner Sustainability Game was born from a deep-seated belief that sustainable change starts from within. Over the years, working with organizations, leaders, and changemakers, I saw a recurring challenge—sustainability efforts often focused on external strategies, policies, and technological solutions while neglecting the inner capacities needed to drive real transformation. Without self-awareness, emotional intelligence, resilience, and collaborative skills, even the best sustainability initiatives struggle to create lasting impact.

Bridging the Gap
– From Insight to Action
I wanted to bridge this gap. Inspired by my background in design thinking, coaching, and regenerative leadership, I envisioned a tool that could make inner development tangible, engaging, and actionable. I asked myself: How can we make learning about inner sustainability feel like an experience rather than just a concept?
This is where the idea of a game came in. Games have the power to unlock creativity, foster meaningful dialogue, and create a safe space for exploration. I wanted to design something that would invite participants to reflect on their personal and collective development in an interactive way—something that would move beyond traditional workshops and PowerPoint slides.
Inner Sustainability Game
– A Catalyst for Change
Since its creation, the Inner Sustainability Game has been played by organizations, teams, and sustainability professionals across different sectors. It has been used in climate conferences, leadership programs, and innovation processes to help people connect with the human side of sustainability. Seeing how it has facilitated deep conversations, strengthened collaboration, and ignited a sense of purpose in those who play it has been the most rewarding part of this journey.
Here’s why it’s so powerful:
1. Engaging and Safe Space:
The Game methodology naturally lower defenses and encourage participation. This allows players to express their authentic thoughts and feelings on complex topics like climate change, without fear of judgment.
2. Exploration of Personal Values:
The game prompts participants to reflect on their own beliefs, priorities, and emotional responses to sustainability challenges, helping them connect personally to the issue rather than seeing it as an abstract problem.
3. Collective Wisdom and Dialogue:
By bringing people together in meaningful conversation, the game fosters collective sense-making. Diverse perspectives are shared, leading to richer insights and collaborative problem-solving.
4. A practical way of using Inner Development Goals (IDG) Framework: The game is based on IDG principles, focusing on inner capacities like empathy, resilience, and critical thinking, which are essential for addressing the emotional and psychological dimensions of climate change.
5. Emotional Connection and Ownership:
Through storytelling and interaction, players don’t just analyze climate challenges—they feel them. This emotional connection drives motivation, commitment, and a sense of shared responsibility.
6. From Reflection to Action:
The game doesn’t stop at reflection; it encourages participants to envision practical steps for sustainable change, both personally and within their organizations, making it a bridge between awareness and action.

A Call to Action
– Sustainability Starts from Within
For me, the game is more than just a tool—it’s a call to action. A reminder that if we truly want to create a more sustainable world, we must start with ourselves. It challenges us to cultivate the self-awareness, resilience, and collaboration skills necessary to drive meaningful change. By engaging with the game, participants don’t just learn about sustainability—they experience it, reflect on their own role in the bigger picture, and leave with a renewed sense of purpose and agency.
